Mammalian Cell Culture - Intensive (42 CPD Credits)

2 Day Course £999

Our Mammalian Cell Culture - Intensive course offers a rare opportunity to develop hands-on experience with cell culture specialists with extensive background in pharmaceutical and academic research.

Overview

Mammalian Cell Culture is a highly regarded laboratory technique often requested for graduate-level researcher positions in academia and industry. Our Mammalian Cell Culture - Intensive course offers comprehensive, laboratory-based tuition using a range of human and animal cell lines, thus providing a rare opportunity to pursue further education and future careers in Medicine, Pharmacology, Biology, and Biomedical Science.

This course is designed to expose graduates and postgraduates to the fundamental techniques of mammalian cell culture to help them carry out basic cell-culture techniques properly and safely. The course, taught by experienced scientists, covers all laboratory requirements and legal regulations of work in the UK.

What to Expect

The Mammalian Cell Culture -Intensive course runs from 9:30am – 4pm for 2 consecutive days, with an hour break for lunch. We teach at a very low student-to-tutor ratio (5:1), meaning that students are supervised and encouraged throughout their course.

Course Content

During this course, participants work in Class II Biosafety Cabinets to perform the following techniques on both adherent and suspension cell lines:

  • Sterile media preparation.

  • Resuscitation and culturing of (human and animal) cell lines from frozen stocks.

  • Passaging and feeding of cells.

  • Cryopreservation of cells.

  • Microscopic evaluation of confluence and morphology.

  • Cell Counting and Density Calculations.

Prerequisites

  • This course introduces all the essential skills required for cell culture. However, to get the most from this course, you must be confident and competent in a laboratory setting. You may be asked to complete a questionnaire prior to the commencement of your course to ensure you are able to meet the required competencies.

  • If you do not yet possess the necessary laboratory skills, you must attend our 1-day ‘Introduction to Laboratory Skills’ course before commencing this course.

Learning Outcomes

  • Attendees benefit from hands-on laboratory experience in a nurturing environment at BioGrad Education, as well as from interacting closely with our senior scientists and fellow participants throughout the course period.

  • Attendees will utilize lab protocols to carry out common mammalian cell culture techniques such as preparing sterile cell culture media, resuscitating cells, passaging of suspension and adherent cell lines, counting cells using the hemacytometer and the automated cell counter, freezing cells, and evaluating confluence and morphology of the cells.

  • Attendees can also measure the cell viability and plot the growth curve independently.

  • Attendees can design, perform, and analyse the results of a cell-culture-based experiment.

Course Endpoint

This course provides postgraduate scientists with transferable skills and techniques needed to progress on into jobs or research projects. This course is also suitable for anyone who wants to refresh their knowledge and skills before starting a new role or research project.

Attendees not only gain transferable laboratory skills but also valuable insights into the research opportunities and applications of these techniques.

All our courses provide attendees with valuable insights into a range of careers and laboratory research opportunities available. We have links with many companies that recruit interns and graduates based on our recommendations. On completion of the course, your new skills and laboratory techniques will be endorsed by our lecturers on LinkedIn, and a factual reference will be provided upon request.

Flexible Course Payment Options

  • All payments can be taken securely with PayPal. In addition, all major debit and credit cards are accepted.

  • Pay in full at the time of booking
