Knowledge
Essential criteria
Knowledge of specialist Haematology and Transfusion procedures to post-graduate diploma level (or equivalent) acquired though CPD, short courses and ongoing specialist training.
Knowledge of COSHH legislation, fire regulations, Data Protection Act, postal regulations, Ionising Radiation Rules and Regulations
Awareness of hazards and dangers and the correct protocol to follow in the event of intrusion, fire or other emergency situation. Awareness of remedial action for uncontained infectious, chemical or radioactive material
Service development.Contribute to the implementation of services, making suggestions and input into service and policy.
Quality.Good understanding of the importance of IQA, and external quality control systems eg: NEQAS
Data processing and management.Knowledge of the implications of the Caldicott Report and Data Protection Act.
Experience
Essential criteria
Significant experience of modern laboratory techniques and good knowledge of current professional issues.
Qualifications
Essential criteria
Qualified as an experienced State Registered Biomedical Scientist.

Ability to supervise and train others
Computer literate – capable of utilising complex proprietary information systems and generic software
