Laboratory Equipment List and Applications
This list provides an overview of the key laboratory equipment in our facilities, along with their primary uses and practical applications.
BMG FLUOstar Omega Plate Reader
-
A multi-mode microplate reader capable of absorbance, fluorescence, and luminescence measurements. It uses an ultra-fast UV/Vis spectrometer or filters for absorbance, and highly sensitive filters for luminescence and fluorescence.
-
Applications: Detection of biological, chemical and physical events that occur in samples when ELISA, Bradford assay, cell proliferation assays, and a variety of other biochemical assays are performed.

PCR Machine (Thermal Cycler)
-
Used to amplify DNA segments via the polymerase chain reaction (PCR), allowing for detection, cloning, or sequencing of genetic material.
-
Applications: Genetic testing, pathogen detection, DNA cloning, and research in molecular biology.
Class II Biosafety Cabinets
-
Provide a sterile and safe environment for handling biological materials, protecting both the user and the samples.
-
Applications: Cell culture, handling infectious agents, and working with human or animal-derived biological materials.
CO₂ Incubator
-
Maintains optimal temperature, humidity, and CO₂ levels for cell growth, mimicking physiological conditions.
-
Applications: Growing mammalian cell cultures, tissue culture experiments, and microbial growth under controlled conditions.
iBright™ CL750 Imaging System
-
Used to capture high-quality images of chemiluminescent and fluorescent signals from gels and membranes.
-
Applications: Imaging Western blots, DNA and RNA gels stained with nucleic acid dyes, and protein gels.
Benchtop Incubator
-
Provides controlled temperature and, in some models, agitation for sample incubation.
-
Applications: Microbiological cultures, enzymatic reactions, and general sample incubation.
NanoDrop One Microvolume Spectrophotometer
-
Measures DNA, RNA, and protein concentrations using as little as 1 µL of sample with high accuracy.
-
Applications: Nucleic acid quantification, protein concentration measurement, and quality control in molecular biology experiments.
Mini Dry Bath (Heating Block)
-
Compact incubator capable of precise temperature control for various block formats.
-
Applications: Sample incubation, enzyme reactions, and laboratory protocols requiring consistent heating.
Centrifuges
-
Use centrifugal force to separate components of a liquid sample based on density.
-
Applications: Separating blood components, isolating DNA/RNA, protein purification, and other laboratory separations.
Shaker
-
Provides controlled, consistent agitation for mixing samples.
-
Applications: Cell culture mixing, solubilizing compounds, and maintaining homogeneity in liquid samples.
Ultra-Low Temperature (ULT) Freezer (-80°C)
-
Preserves biological samples by halting chemical and enzymatic degradation.
- Applications: Long-term storage of DNA, RNA, proteins, cell lines, and other sensitive biological materials.
Inverted Microscope (Motic AE31E inverted Trinocular Microscope)
-
Designed to view specimens from below, allowing observation of cells and cultures in large containers like petri dishes or flasks.
-
Applications: It is commonly used in cell biology and tissue culture labs for examining living cells, monitoring culture growth, and capturing images via the trinocular camera port for documentation and analysis.
Water bath
-
A water bath provides a controlled, stable temperature environment for samples by circulating warm water around tubes or containers.
-
Applications: It is used in a variety of experiments that require consistent heating, such as enzyme reactions, incubations, and warming reagents without direct flame or dry heat.
